Position Title: South Africa Supplier Quality Engineer
The main purpose of the job will be to support the localization project in South Africa, taking charge of supplier evaluations, and further, drive their development steps as
well as to prepare them to respond to the Volvo Group quality assurance processes.
Reporting: This role will be reporting to the Purchasing Director
Job Objective
• Working in co-operation with Engineering department and Purchasing.
• The SQE monitors the supplier APQP activities for the local purchased items also reporting upon the progresses.
• The SQE is entitled to approve the PPAP as a milestone of the APQP.
• In running production phase, the SQE monitors the performance of the local supply base
• In case of deviation, interacts with the suppliers causing problems and manage their recovery plan.Education and Job Experience
• Master degree in Quality or Engineering, or >3 years of technical experience (an extensive experience and strong performance can substitute for lack of diploma)
• Demonstrated experience in performing system and/or process audits
• Demonstrated experience in improving industrial manufacturing processes
• Good knowledge about the automotive quality standards, such as ISO/TS16949.
• A significant “Quality” experience in industry can substitute.Job Knowledge and Skills
• Good English and French communication skills, both orally and in writing, plus local language
• Good technical knowledge, preferably in mechanic or metallurgy
• Detailed knowledge about the basic quality process and tools
• Good leadership and ability to obtain commitment and improvements from business partners
• Good analytic competence, also used to work from business holistic view to technical details
• Strong organizational and time management ability, as well as working in project mode
• Ability to create networks and to lead across functional activities
